When thinking about purchasing a nice bottle of wine for a romantic evening in with your partner it has to be said that many people do not even think about getting a bottle of English wine. Why is this?
It would seem that one of the main issues is that people think English and do not think romance, quality and fine taste whereas if you were to say French or Chilean those words almost jump out at you. However some of these English wines are very nice indeed and can really go down well when you are looking to cook a nice dinner for your partner.
Although England no longer that many things that are actually that great, it has to be said that wine is something we still make very well.
So where does the best English wine come from?
Devon seems to be a key area for the vineyards and most wines that are made in England come from here simply because it is one of the warmest areas in the entire country. On top of this this is one of the areas of the country which is still very quiet with hardly any fumes coming from cities reaching the area. Perfect for growing the grapes needed to make wine.
If you are really into your wines then the best thing I can suggest you do is to actually take a trip to Devon and explore some of the vineyards such as Old Walls and Yearlstone. Many of the vineyards if not all of them offer tours and wine tasting events and many of the wines they have on offer have one various awards.
It is hard to believe that there are over 250 vineyards here in the UK and it is more than possible that with the way things are going for us at the moment we could, in the very near future, catch up with France on things like quality of Champagne.
So if you are interested in your wine and haven’t really had the chance to taste what England has to offer I strongly suggest you take a trip and try some!
