Forget Cupid this Valentine's Day and Give Bacchus a Chance!
Romance is not high on the agenda in the Williams household at the moment. My wife is due to give birth in three weeks time and we seem to be existing in a a state of temporary suspension, or, in my wife’s case, suspended animation. It’s the calm before the storm.
So when my wife mentioned whether or not we should give each other a present this Valentines Day I resisted the temptation to say, while pointing at her ever expanding bump, “I’ve already given you your present darling”.
Instead I suggested a romantic meal at home. To accompany the meal my wife has offered to buy me a special bottle of wine, one to simply savour. At this late stage in the pregnancy I’m permanently on driving alert so a glass or two will be all I’m allowed. The wine will need to be a good one.
Our conversation made me realise that fine wine really does make an excellent Velentine’s gift. Wine, and the art of wine-making is inherently romantic.
