Woollaston are joint ventures by formed Phillip & Chan Woollaston and Glen & Renee Schaeffer formed 2000. They later opened their state-of-the-art winery in 2006 which fulfilled their shared dreams. The multi-level winery uses gravity to transfer the wine through its evolution from grape to bottle. This winery is as eco-friendly as possible, going as far as planting the roof with local tussock grass to help insulation and to blend with its surroundings. The Winery is signed up to the New Zealand sustainable wine growing charter and 75% of the vineyards are in transition to organic. The wines have won a few awards at home in New Zealand with the Sauvignon being rated as one of the best in Nelson.
